You don't have to wear a cape to be a hero!
...just follow our school-wide expectations!
Arrival and Dismissal
Be on Time! The first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. Students should line up at the back of the school on the blacktop of the fifth/sixth grade playground. The second bell rings at 8:00. Students who arrive late must go to the office to receive a tardy slip. Please be on time because we have specials at 8:10! D3 students sign up for lunch, hang up their backpacks and coats, and fill out their school planners right away.
Dismissal is at 3:10 p.m. Students will exit through the back door of our classroom. Those who attend Kid's Time (daycare) will go directly to the gym.

Procedures
Stay Hydrated! Proper hydration is extremely important for brain function and overall health. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle from home to keep at their desks. Please bring PLAIN water only. Water bottles should be taken home each Friday for cleaning. Of course, students may get drinks from the water fountain whenever necessary, although I may ask them to wait during direct instruction.
Students may also use the restroom whenever necessary. During instruction, they may be asked to wait if possible. If I am not teaching, they may place the restroom pass on their desks and go without asking.
Students may bring a healthy snack in the morning. Lunch is at 12:10, and students may get hungry prior to lunchtime. Healthy snacks might include water, granola bars, fruit, or dry cereal. Please do not send beverages other than plain water, chips, candy, or sweet desserts.

Supplies:
Be Prepared! Parents will be provided with a suggested BPS supply list; however, some of those supplies may not be needed. Students may need to replenish their supplies throughout the school year as necessary.
Students should sharpen two pencils each morning. I suggest mechanical pencils or Ticonderoga pencils. They may sharpen pencils any time during the day as long as I am not teaching. We also have a classroom pencil can.

Expectations: #BeKind
Be Kind! We have three school-wide expectations:
Be safe.
Be respectful
Be responsible.
Individual students will receive Positive Paws as well as Bixby Bucks, our classroom currency, for following expectations. There are incentives provided for earning both of these.
We Are Bucket Fillers: When the class follows expectations as a whole, they receive "drops" in their bucket. When the bucket is full, we have a whole class celebration!
Students who do not follow our school-wide expectations will place their numbers on the whiteboard and fill out a 'Think Sheet" during recess. They will take this sheet home for parent signature and return it the next school day. This is simply a communication tool between school and parents to help you stay aware of what is happening here at school. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation!

Grading
Do Your Best! I do not take grades on all daily assignments. Our first assignments on a specific topic are introductory learning experiences. I take most of our grades from later assignments, formative tests, and final, or summative, assessments. These are used as a check for understanding of the topics and concepts we have studied. Students may request to re-do assignments or assessments. You may check your child's grades on PowerSchool at any time; this is highly recommended, especially at mid-quarter as a progress report. You will receive a report card at the end of each quarter. We will also have student/parent/teacher conferences in October and again in February. You will be sent an email containing a link to sign up for your child's conference. I will contact you if I have any concerns about your child's progress, and I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns as well.
Students who do not complete assignments are encouraged to take unfinished work home to complete. If assignments are not turned in, the student will stay in for Study Hall during recess in order to finish class work.
