This first week of school, we've been focusing on building community activities. We used Play-dough to create a "Me Museum," did a Museum walk so that we could look at everyone's creations, then those who wanted to were able to share verbally with everyone. We also worked together to do a Marshmallow Tower challenge, building the tallest towers possible with only spaghetti noodles, tape, and a marshmallow in cooperative groups. Students shared things about themselves, such as favorite foods or number of pets, through a fun Skittles activity and with a dice game as well. Finally, we accepted the challenge to "Save Fred" in a fun, cooperative learning activity. Students worked with a partner to save Fred (a gummy worm) from drowning using only four paper clips and a life preserver (a gummy lifesaver)! They were only allowed to touch the paper clips with their hands, nothing else! It has been fun to watch the students work together so well, get to know each other, and build our D3 community!
I have been teaching in Bellevue Public Schools for nineteen years. These are the ed-ventures of the Mrs. McG and D3! Archives
