Because of our missed days, our Social Studies EO test will now be given next Tuesday, the 29th. Please take home your Study Guides and study each day for about 15 to 20 minutes.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow! I've missed you!

I hope everyone enjoyed their extended weekend! We will still be having our Celebration on Friday, so wear your pajamas and bring your small electronics on that day. Please make sure you have turned in your signed permission slip to bring your device. If you cannot find your slip, just have your parents make a quick note in your planner. It's all good!

5th grade students will perform with Mrs. Johnson at Bellevue East High School on Monday, January 29th at 7:00 pm. Please have your children at school by 6:50 so they can find their assigned seat and be ready to sing their hearts out! Looking forward to seeing you!
Due to the Snow Day, we will be having our Celebration on Friday, the 25th. We will also be changing the date of the Social Studies EO assessment in order to give students ample opportunity to study. They will be bringing home TWO study guides, so they will be very prepared!
So... no more snow dancing! We need to come to school! ;) So excited to open my class list and see some of my favorite names from my last first grade class! It's been fun to see how the students I had in first grade have grown, but this is the last class that I taught. So I will enjoy them this year while looking forward to meeting all new students next year (but it will be weird not to have any familiar faces next school year!).
Wow! It's hard to believe that my third year of teaching 5th grade is over. All in all it seemed to go quickly, though at times I thought it would never end! We all have those times (right around the end of January) where the school year starts to lag, but then it picks right up and you can't believe how time has flown! In some ways it was a tough year; my only wish this year was that parents knew and understood that teachers' best interests lie solely with the students. I always tell my students to make sure they tell Mom and Dad the WHOLE truth, because I will ALWAYS be honest with them. I make plenty of mistakes and will always own those mistakes; I think that's one of the ways to be a role model for my students. In the same way, I want students to take responsibility for their mistakes and actions. Teachers do NOT come to school each day thinking about how they can pick on their students, trust me! We wouldn't become teachers if that is how we thought or felt. But we do try to teach your children about accountability and respect so they can be successful throughout school and the rest of their lives. Please remember that I care about your children, and that is why I have high expectations for them. <3 Thank goodness for summer break! We will be having our first Parent//Teacher/Student conference next week. Thank you to everyone who has signed up using SignUpGenius. So much more convenient, right? Topics will include MAP scores and goal setting. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Our Reading story this week was Thunder Rose, a tall tale about a girl born with enormous strength and the ability to even tame tornadoes! All three 5th grade classes got together to create Tall Tale Comics on iPads as a way to extend learning. We then did a Museum Walk so everyone could see each group's comic. It was fun to see the students collaborate so successfully in this cooperative learning activity. Many thanks to Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Hebert! It's fun for teachers to collaborate and cooperate too! This first week of school, we've been focusing on building community activities. We used Play-dough to create a "Me Museum," did a Museum walk so that we could look at everyone's creations, then those who wanted to were able to share verbally with everyone. We also worked together to do a Marshmallow Tower challenge, building the tallest towers possible with only spaghetti noodles, tape, and a marshmallow in cooperative groups. Students shared things about themselves, such as favorite foods or number of pets, through a fun Skittles activity and with a dice game as well. Finally, we accepted the challenge to "Save Fred" in a fun, cooperative learning activity. Students worked with a partner to save Fred (a gummy worm) from drowning using only four paper clips and a life preserver (a gummy lifesaver)! They were only allowed to touch the paper clips with their hands, nothing else! It has been fun to watch the students work together so well, get to know each other, and build our D3 community! Thanks to my wonderful new students and their families, B2SN was a great success! I met many new friends and saw several familiar faces as well. I answered as many questions as I could, and we even got some of our supplies put away. I had a few visitors from last year and even had a couple from my old first grade classes. It was a long day, but a very fun evening. Now to get ready for tomorrow!
And I am SO excited! I was so happy to see some familiar (and well-loved) names on my new class list. I am very optimistic about this school year based on the students I remember. I know that people change and things are different at this age, but I remember these friends as hard-working, kind, and helpful. I could not be happier at this moment and am very excited about the coming school year! Hope you guys are ready!
